Man Utd get serious about Sporting Lisbon's Veloso

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is pondering a £10 million bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso.

Ferguson, taking the advice of his assistant Carlos Queiroz, has identified Veloso as the next potential star to emerge from the Sporting youth ranks that also produced Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani, says the Guardian.

Veloso, who has broken into the Portuguese national side at 21, has been the outstanding player in La Liga this season and it is a measure of United's interest that Ferguson's brother Martin, the club's chief scout, has been a virtual ever-present recently at the Estadio Jose Alvalade XI. United have been represented at six of Veloso's last seven matches.

Ferguson has been slowly modifying his line-up to a 4-2-3-1 system and he has received glowing reports about Veloso's ability to break up opposition attacks. One scouting report from last season details how Veloso outshone Patrick Vieira when Sporting beat Internazionale in the Champions League.

Deco fears Barcelona's dream could be ended by resurgent United

Barcelona's Deco has picked out Manchester United as one of the main threats on the road to the Champions League final.

"United are strong," he told Champions magazine of the UEFA Champions League."They have improved since last season with their new signings."
He also named Milan and Real Madrid as rivals of Barcelona. "Milan are always the same. They seem dead in the water, seem to be playing badly but in the final stages they become too strong. And Real Madrid signed pretty wisely in the summer."

Deco, 29, added: "I am curious about Arsenal, to see if they can keep going until the end of the season. And we have to see what is to be of Chelsea."

The midfielder, who won his first Champions League title in Jose Mourinho's Porto side in 2004 said: "Mourinho makes his players better. I have only good things to say about him. Let's wait and see at the end of the season how much Chelsea miss him."

Deco says he is committed to Barca despite summer speculation about his future. "They told me that I was part of the project and they didn't want me to leave. I had to take their word, didn't I?
"However, the time of every player at any club always comes to an end. Always. i have a contract until 2010 and my intention is to stay here. But, if the club is not satisfied with me, we will go our separate ways. that is normal, it is part of football."

Fighting for a place in the attack are Messi, Eto'o, Thierry Henry and two pearls from the club's academy Giovani Dos Santos and Spaniard Bojan Krkic, who has Serbian roots.

He added: "We have some new players this year, but the structure of the team hasn't changed. We will all suffer a lot of pressure throughout the season, and Rijkaard will suffer from it above all - the coach is always in the spotlight. The group of players is bigger, and the main difficulty will be keeping everybody calm and satisfied."

Man Utd in swap talks for Barcelona star Eto'o

Manchester United are in sensational swap talks with Barcelona over fiery Cameroon ace Samuel Eto'o.

The People says agents are working behind the scenes to see if a deal can be struck to move the Cameroon hit-man to Old Trafford in exchange for Louis Saha and £5 million.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been on the look-out for another striker for some time and has grown increasingly frustrated with Saha's constant injury problems.

The Frenchman will not play unless he feels 100 per cent fit and, while his ability is undoubted, his willingness to put his body on the line when needed is questionable.

Eto'o, meanwhile, has himself been plagued by injury this season and has not featured for Barca since tearing a tendon in his right thigh.

However, he is on target to return just before Christmas and would be ready to go by the time any deal could be sanctioned in January.

The striker will be on African Cup of Nations duty and would disappear for the back end of January and early February. But, long term, that would not bother Fergie.

Man Utd boss Ferguson has Huntelaar in sights

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is considering a January bid for Ajax ace Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The People says Ferguson has once again grown frustrated by Louis Saha's injury problems and he has compiled a list of targets which includes Huntelaar, Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka and Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov.

With Saha increasingly unreliable and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer retired, United would be short in attack if Wayne Rooney or Tevez picked up an injury and Ferguson does not want to jeopardise his side's chances of silverware.

Fergie has asked the club's owners if money is available in January and was given a positive response. Huntelaar's agent has admitted that this is likely to be the Dutch star's last season at Ajax.

United keep an eye on Tevez's brother

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Carlos Tevez's teenage brother. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has identified Miguel Tevez, 17, as a star of the future during a two-week trial at United which has just finished.

The attacking midfielder was recommended to Ferguson by his assistant Carlos Queiroz. Ferguson has yet to decide whether to offer Tevez Jnr a permanent deal and it is understood the teenager has been home-sick during his stay in England.
But sources close to United said Ferguson was impressed by his ability and attitude and has told his staff that his development must be monitored.

Miguel also spent time at West Ham when Tevez was there last season and is considered one of South America's most improved young players.

He is known as the 'little Apache' at home and began his career at Boca Juniors, where his brother made his name.

United have handed a trial to Southend midfielder Medi Abalimba, 16, who will link up with the club at the end of the month.

Man Utd eye young Southend star

Southend's 16-year-old midfielder Medi Abalimba is to have a trial at the end of this month with Manchester United.

Abalimba, who turned down a host of Premier League clubs to join the Blues in the summer, has attracted attention with his trickery in the youth team.

"They have watched Medi a few times and they like what they have seen.

"They will assess him in training and maybe take him a bit longer so he can play in a game," Southend head of youth Ricky Duncan told the club's website.

"We don't want to lose our players to bigger clubs but we should not stop them experiencing these types of things when they come along.

"It is a learning curve for him, and it is fantastic for us that these sides are interested in what we are doing."

The Sun says Sir Alex Ferguson has already made a huge £7 million bid for the 17-year-old Montenegro international.

United's bid is a massive one for a teenager but Jovetic is special and Ferguson is acting quickly to snap him up.

The striker made his senior international debut in a friendly against Hungary last season.
Jovetic has played 54 games for Partizan and bagged 18 goals, including six this season.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson watched La Liga match, Barca's 3-0 thumping of Atletico Madrid.

Sir Alex Ferguson made a personal check on Barcelona superkid Giovani dos Santos and Atletico Madrid midfielder Raul Garcia.

Ferguson sees Dos Santos as an ideal solution for the left-side of his midfield, but will face competition from Chelsea.

And Ferguson likes Raul's versatility and is aware of the youngster's smooth transition into Atletico's midfield since his summer arrival.

Moreover, Manchester United is interested in Barcelona's sparkling midfielder Andres Iniesta.
